Getting started is easy!

Tiny Tigers

The Tiny Tigers program helps young children build confidence, focus, and self-control through fun Songahm Taekwondo classes designed for early development. Instructors teach positive attitude, goal setting, and respect in a supportive environment that fits the values parents want at home.

Each class blends movement, teamwork, and social interaction to strengthen listening skills and improve attention. Children stay excited with character-based lessons, collectible patches, and a belt system that teaches them how to set and achieve goals. Parents love this program because it builds confident leaders, active kids, and healthy habits that last.

Karate for Kids

The Karate for Kids program helps children ages six to twelve build confidence, discipline, and strong social skills through engaging Songahm Taekwondo training. Classes focus on goal setting, respect, and perseverance while giving kids a fun way to develop coordination, focus, and healthy habits.

Students work together, learn to follow instructions, and build friendships through partner drills and team-based activities. The structured belt system keeps them motivated and teaches the value of consistent effort and personal achievement. Parents appreciate how this program supports real world success by building responsible, confident young leaders.

Teen & Adult

The teen and adult program blends traditional martial arts with modern self-defense to help students build confidence, reduce stress, and stay active in a supportive environment. Classes challenge the mind and body through goal setting, focused training, and a progression system that keeps you motivated as you advance.

Each session builds awareness, discipline, and real-world skills while giving you a fun way to improve fitness and mental clarity. Students connect with like-minded people who want to grow, push themselves, and feel stronger in everyday life. This program is ideal for anyone looking to improve their health, confidence, and overall well-being with a purpose driven routine.

ABOUT US

Queen City ATA is a family-centered martial arts school in Charlotte dedicated to helping children grow into confident leaders while giving adults a clear path to better fitness, focus, and real-world self-defense. As part of ATA Martial Arts, a proven system founded in 1969, our programs are built on discipline, respect, and goal setting that support growth both on and off the mat. Located at 11401 Ardrey Kell Rd, Queen City ATA is led by Chief Instructor and Owner Mr. Shankaran Jayakumaran, a fourth-degree black belt who is deeply committed to helping students reach their full potential.

Mr. Jayakumaran understands the impact martial arts can have because he lived it himself. As a child, he struggled with confidence and hesitation before stepping onto the mat. That decision changed the direction of his life. When he opened Queen City ATA in 2019, his goal was simple and powerful, to give families in Charlotte the same opportunity to build confidence, character, and leadership through Songahm Taekwondo in a supportive and structured environment.

Shankaran Jayakumaran

Mr. Shankaran Jayakumaran is a certified instructor with the American Taekwondo Association and a fourth degree black belt specializing in Songahm Taekwondo, with over 10 years of teaching experience. As chief instructor, he leads with passion, purpose, and a deep commitment to changing lives through martial arts. His journey began as a child who struggled with confidence, and martial arts became the turning point that shaped him mentally, physically, and emotionally into the disciplined leader he is today. That personal experience fuels his mission to ensure every student feels supported, encouraged, and capable of achieving their goals. Since opening the school in 2019, he has been dedicated to serving the Charlotte community by teaching children, teens, and adults that martial arts is more than kicks and punches. It is a proven system for building confidence, resilience, respect, and strong character through patient instruction, high standards, and meaningful personal connection.
